I love to shop but time constraint has always been an issue on my schedule. So, I prefer online shopping more than spending hours hopping from one store to another. But this time when I logged into a leading shopping website I had an assistance along with me helping me out to make choices and decisions. Isn’t that wonderful?

We have always loved the way we text on Facebook Messenger or send normal messages on the phone. Why is the way we communicate through messages so delightful and interesting? Numerous emojis, funny emoticons and the way to deliver our own information becomes visually attractive and is so adaptive. Apparently, a connection happens when we communicate the free way we are! Isn’t it?
How free we feel when we are in conversation with our best friend. It’s that communication what we have adapted for our businesses even and our way of comfortable exchange of messages changed all scenarios completely. We have online bots that help us with all our needs with just the way we would want to.
Today we have chat-bots in every field. So, we feel at home. It’s like chatting with our own best friend and asking her to do a task for us or simply asking for suggestions?
Can you show me some amazing shoes in blue color?
This is the question we ask shopkeepers when we visit a shop. With changing ways of doing shopping, we have shifted a big percentage towards online shopping. Thousands of collections, any variety of clothing, any size and color is all available for us with a single click. But what do we miss then?
We miss our shopkeeper or assistant that guides us with the sections. Isn’t it? How about if we have online assistants as well dealing with all our sighting problems while conversing and comforting like a friend? Yes, and that’s exactly why we need chat bots.
Conversational UI’s have termed to be the latest trend setters in the technological department. They are UI’s that uses chat-bots and help us try to virtually live like chatting with a human. Moving from traditional GUIs to now Conversational UIs has brought down big tasks down. Conversational UIs seem easy on the design part but it’s not that easy. We need a lot of formats to follow while adapting to Conversational UIs.
Let’s know some more about Conversational UIs. We have 2 types of Conversational UIs:
- Voice Assistants
- Chat bots
So, We have plenty of live examples of Voice Assistance in front of us. If you own an iPhone you know about SIRI, if you have Android you know about Google assistant ‘OK Google‘, if you browse through Amazon we have Echo and so many others. These voice assistants have leveled up our searches for music, bookings and with a familiar human voice.
On similar notes, we have Chat-bots for our own businesses, who help us guide through the portal while chatting to us in a friendly manner. Like, now even Facebook has M which is a Facebook messenger helper which nudges off all our worries and guides us with getting a booking done or getting food delivered.
How is Conversational UI the new fad?
Though the technology is not as new as it may sound. It grew recently with the advancement in technology and the way of implementation, it has been better in practical use. Everyone in a connected world like today has a voice assistant playing along with them in their phones. So, we have grown a lot from the traditional ways of just browsing and getting our needs done by ourselves.
How is Conversational UI good?
We have a lot of advantages if we switch to this UI:
- It is cross-platform that is well versed with any platform be it mobile phones, desktops or any other screen.
- They have a human touch to their use. You no more need to deal with computers in the language that needs to be translated or tasks that they need to understand in their representations. You have a common interface to chat and communicate without a third party translation.
- No more updates required. Numerous updates for making an existing UI more powerful and designed is no longer required with Conversational UI. Companies like Apple, Google, Facebook have already launched the UI interface for their use without any major updates happening.
What is the difficult part then in getting Conversational UIs?
Surely, it is difficult to get Conversational UIs to follow our forever needs. It is a fear that engulfs us what if we make our total businesses on Conversational UIs what about the designers all over? No more need to plan and design websites or worry about the beautiful interfaces?
Apart from all that building up a Conversational UI is just not an easy cup of tea. You have to be very sure of the structure that you use to build the UI applying the chatbots. It is difficult to give the exact look and feel of a human to a computer surface. If it feels natural, its a YAY! from people but if you fail to deliver the exact feel its a NAY! and probably can fallback to big crisis.
Also, there is not much digging into the ground when it comes to these UIs. A lot of creativity in designing or any sort is technically not required and thus puts a stop at the growing potential. The only way you can make it a success is by weighing it with the right content and structure.
Standing at the forefront of the technological edges, Conversational UIs can become your friend but not easily. You need to be a little more open to embrace the changes and also to become a part of the change.
Try to build a new Arena, where we welcome the new interface with warm hands and get ourselves ready for some roller coaster changes.
